Seva

Seva is selfless service offered to God and the Guru, performed as a pure offering, without attachment to the results of one’s actions and without desire for personal gain. Performing seva is a way to cultivate the steady awareness of your union with the Self, the divine Consciousness within, even while engaging in action.

You are invited to participate in the practice of seva, which is one of the core Siddha Yoga practices. Some people offer seva in areas in which they have skills while others offer seva in areas that require them to cultivate new abilities. On the Siddha Yoga path, every seva is considered equally important.

Arati: Arati is an act of worship during which a flame symbolizing the light of the Self is waved before the image of the Guru. This sacred practice is typically performed as an invocation to the Guru during the singing of a hymn.

Amrit: Satsangs and other events are often accompanied by light refreshments. Seva opportunities in Amrit include bringing a vegetarian snack or dish.

Audio Visual: AV sevites facilitate integrated audio, multimedia video and/or live-streaming during satsangs and other events.

Flowers: Flowers enhance the beauty of the sacred spaces in the meditation center. Flower sevites bring flowers and create beautiful arrangements for the center’s pujas and tables.

Hosting: Hosts facititate satsangs from the podium, often reading texts, introducing chants, making announcements, and leading participants through various aspects of a satsang. This role requires training and coaching.

Housekeeping: This seva insures that the sacred and social spaces of the meditation center are maintined in a beautiful and pristine condition. This role involves cleaning, dusting, polishing, and vacuuming on a periodic basis.

Music: Music sevites, with the guidance of the music coordinator, play instruments and lead chant during satsang, preserving the sacred music of the Siddha Yoga path.
